ExecTec FAQ

1) What is ExecTec?
The Executive Networking & Technology Group of Los Angeles (ExecTec) was started by Joel Ordesky in October of 2004 when a group called Ken's Group for Business (KGB) stopped meeting on a regular basis. The KGB was a networking group that met once a week. Each week 25 or so people showed up and shared things about technology, business and themselves. Many lively discussions were had on topics ranging from the latest and greatest in technology issues to serious business issues. Many solid business and social relationships were formed and even some deals were made.

Through that group many fantastic people met and formed friendships that will last long into the future. Joel not wanting to see this part of his professional life falter decided to step forward and create a new group.

His goal for this group was to create a regularly meeting group of executives who came together on a weekly basis to share ideas and participate in lively discussions.

This group is for any person who is looking to expand their network of contacts or the executive who wants a fun way to stay current on the latest and greatest in technology and business issues.

2. Who Is Joel Ordesky

Joel is senior executive with over 12 years experience in leading and managing operations for companies with revenues in excess of 30 million. Currently Joel serves as the Vice President of Technology for Wexler Video the leading television equipment rental house in the United States. Joel's strengths (besides networking) include strategic and business planning, team development and building, written and verbal communication, employee coaching and budgeting.

3) What is the group about?

The goal of the group is to create a place for executives to network with each other for mutual aid and to create a peer network. The weekly dinners allow a social setting in which executives can meet and connect with other in a natural social manner.

4) I am not exactly an executive or not really all that technological can I still come?
ExecTec is just a name that outlines the general interest of the group. The group is for any person that has an interest in networking with others in the media, entertainment, technology and or business.

5) What does the group do?

The group meets once a week for a dinner meeting on Tuesday nights at 7:30pm at D'Amores [(310) 208-7077] 1136 Westwood Blvd, Westwood. Feel free to arrive early so you can socialize before the meeting and enjoy the great food.

6) What do we do at dinner?

There is a brief opportunity to socialize before the event starts and then the moderator (usually Joel) starts the meeting. We go around the room and every person stands up and shares:
a) Their Name
b) What they do (you may chose to say or not say where you work)
c) Who invited them or how they heard about the group.
d) Answer a question posed by the moderator for the evening.
The moderator will then lead a discussion on a given topic for the week. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to contribute to the discussion.

7) Can I talk about my work or career?

Yes but please do not sell or pitch products or yourself. Remember the key to good networking is to be more about what you can do for others then what they can do for you. Also it is a challenging group of executives who are not shy about giving feedback and you might get more then you bargained for.

8) Is there is a cost associated with dinner or the group?
There is no membership fee other then the expectation that you will contribute to and participate in the group and be a good addition to our network
There is a charge for dinner (salad, pizza, main course and drinks) which is collected during the meeting. The dinner is price fixed and is $25 at the event or $21 in advance via PayPal (www.ExecTec.us/events). There is no reduced fee for those not eating since the restaurant is providing us the space based on the fact that we are eating there.
Please keep in mind that neither ExecTec or the restaurant is making an unfair profit since the fees just cover the costs of running the event.

9) Is there an email list for the group
The only group emails come in the form of messages and administrative emails (notices of new meetings, etc) from Meetup.com, which is the system that we have chosen to help with the administration of the group.

10) Is there a message board or a place to post information to the group?

There is a message board at our Meetup.com site which can be reached at www.ExecTec.us/boards here you can contribute to on going discussions by other group members or start one of your own. Occasionally, the moderator will post follow-up information to the boards after the meeting.

11) Must I "Join" the group online?

If you plan to attend regularly and wish to receive invites then you must join. If you were forced to attend or otherwise blackmailed into showing up then feel free to participate and we hope you will then want to join our fine group.
