D'Amore's Pizza Connection on Westwood (map)
When a manufacturer has developed new technology one of the stages on way to market is when they fold that technology into a product. The key is to make sure that in the end you have a product that utilizes the technology in a way that end users really want.
Often the new product is an evolution of a previous product. The key is to make sure the new product is indeed better.
Now there are some who will argue that some products can not be improved on. Take the book for example, there are those who claim that paper book are better then e-books.
Of course on another day they might claim e-books are better then paper books.
The question is which features are more important to you then others. Are you willing to give up the feel and smell of a good book that is accentuated by the fact that you borrowed and did not return it from someone else for the ability to electronically search obscure references and which gives you access to the most highlighted passages as opposed to those highlighted just your friend?
The key to productization is to take your technology and produce it in a form that makes it great and desirable and not something that falls short of the ultimate user expectation. Obviously there is risk in trying to make something that will work for the greatest number of people in that you will be forced to compromise to much, however the key is to understanding both the potentials and what people will want tomorrow and potentially further down the line.
So what are you selling and how well has it been productized? Are there opportunities out there to put a new spin on existing technology and where is the advantage and disadvantage of the attempt?
Are you ready to give up your print newspapers and bound books in exchange for the ability to have access to a practically limitless library of books where your notes and the book can be accessed from anywhere?
