Content viewing habits are changing.
Television viewing habits are changing as viewed content is no longer mainly about television.
Television started out as a medium in which entertainment was used as a thinly veiled excuse to push commercials. One screen with 1 to 3 different viewing choices (no wonder it was not a big deal to get up and change channels by turning a knob).
Today content is everywhere and anywhere you wish to consume it. Someone once told me that no one would watch video content on their phones, today we watch on our phones, iPods, laptops, desktops and iPads. We watch traditional television, industry specific video podcasts, branded content and sponsored content.
Missed your favorite episode of anything because you forgot to set the DVR as 32% of internet viewers due or maybe you are part of the 47% of internet viewers who felt the need to catch up with a now favorite show (hope you did not just discover Lost), either way people are finding their content before during and after original viewing windows.
Now comes the iPad which brings a whole new viewing angle and experience to bare. No longer the to small experience of the phone or iPod but something that is enjoyable to watch not only when you want and where you want but even a bit now, a bit later much like a book or magazine which you can stop and start at will. Someone called it intimate viewing and I must agree that it makes your content consumption much more personal.
With limit less options that make your 300 channel cable package look like a 1950's TV and the ability for the content provider to know much more about the person who owns and uses the device it is clear change is inevitable and television is hardly the only target with Netflix serving up movies and magazines like Time or Wired hopping on the band wagon too.
Where are you consuming your content and has the availability of richer content on more devices found you consuming that content in new and different ways then before?
Join us as we get into the nitty gritty of content consumption and what we really need to be thinking about as we watch the paradigm shift.
As always, there is no better way to meet and connect with other executives then over dinner and conversation. $21 in advance via PayPal or $25 at the event gets you a full dinner, drink and the best networking around.
Refunds are not offered for this Meetup.
