ExecTec on the Technological Question

While most of us have and will pay unimaginable sums for our technology and for devices (iPad anyone) that further our ability to take that technological edge with us more places in new and unique ways.

The question that we never ask is whether all this technology and our easy access to it are turning into a bad thing.

Is technology helping us to be better or is it creating barriers that waste time and defocus us?

in the fall of 2007, David Pogue, the New York Times tech columnist, exclaimed that the Kindle’s “instant wireless gratification” was “intoxicating.” One can imagine that those who benefited from the books first generated by Gutenberg’s printing press felt much the same intoxication in accessing information that prior to the prinitng press had to be duplicated individually by hand, making a single book valuable well beyond most persons reach.

Despite what seems an obvious advantage is there a down side to all this new technology? Are we better off for e-books or has the loss of the ability to pass along a book made a profound and unmeasured change?

Today I can reach hundreds of ExecTec members with this topic, but has the ease of distribution of this information pushed meaningful communication into the virtual limbo? Does our lack of more personalized correspondence hamper our efforts to connect?

With content everywhere and anywhere you want it, are we focused on neither the medium or the message? Does the quality of content slip because of ease of content creation lowering barrier to less skilled content creators or is overwhelming demand to fill an endless pipe of distribution demanding content no matter the quality?

When is technology not a good thing and how can we choose to maximize our benefit with out loosing something valuable in the process?

Join us we examine the affect of technology on our businesses and society.

As always, there is no better way to meet and connect with other executives then over dinner and conversation. $21 in advance via PayPal or $25 at the event gets you a full dinner, drink and the best networking around.
