I created ExecTec dinners with one of the main goals to create a place where you could develop deep and useful relationships with other executives. ExecTec has no single focus which allows for you to meet and really get to know people from all sectors of business, media and technology. I have always argued that this is critical to any successful career or endeavor.
Keith Ferrazzi's most recent book, "Who's Got Your Back: The Breakthrough Program to Build Deep, Trusting Relationships That Create Success--and Won't Let You Fail" obviously resonates this effort at a deep level. This inherent theme has always been at the heart of ExecTec.
So I think there is no better topic for a night then to chat about this book. At the heart, this is a networking topic. We have discussed networking from many perspectives and while I think the book's four mind sets of generosity, vulnerability, candor and accountability are often mentioned, we have never really looked at how the themes raised in this book really do make a profound difference in any effort and create a deep network which can help make any effort more viable.
Now I know there are those that believe in networking as a concept but often think their network is good enough (and if you think that then probably it really is not even that good). You may argue that the effort is more work then the gain. However you can not benefit if you do not participate and when the need strikes is the wrong time start trying to build a functional network.
So who are your "lifeline relationships" who would not let you fail?
Do you have trusted advisers who will call you on it when you need to hear the truth? Are you counting on the right people to support you and are you really sure they will be there for you when your need arises?
Ultimately it is not about who has the biggest network or even the most powerful. True value is created by having a good, trusted, solid network that is willing to help even when that means saying what you really need to hear but will not like.
We once chatted about what was a real friend and it was generally accepted that only a real friend would drive you to the airport. However only someone of a trusted network would tell you that you that you are doing the wrong thing or that your management ability sucks even if your idea is brilliant.
So come join us are we explore networking from a different perspective and discuss how to start developing a network that will always have your back.
As always, there is no better way to meet and connect with other executives then over dinner and conversation. $21 in advance via PayPal or $25 at the event gets you a full dinner, drink and the best networking around.
